The Rare Weaves: Kazak collection draws inspiration from antique patterns. This collection is a nod to the history of Caucasian Armenian carpet weaving. Each rug is hand-made using the nomadic style wool warp and wept foundation of high-quality Armenian wool. The Kazak designs hail from the western region of Armenia. The collection offers rugs in various sizes, each featuring vibrant colors and bold, archetypal designs. Each rug is one-of-a-kind and made outside of Yerevan, Armenia.
A tribal Armenian Kazak weave rug, the Bordjalu rugs feature a simpler design with particular use of latch hooks in large scale motifs. Bordjalu is a bold, archetypal design; this colorway is executed in brick red, grassy green and ivory, with accents in deep blue. This rug is among the most distinctive Armenian carpet designs, incorporating deeply meaningful symbols into the bright and energetic palettes. This Bordjalu rug is hand knotted of 100% Armenian wool on a wool foundation and adorned in wool fringe. Historically the Bordjalou rugs were woven in a district just south of Tiflis, an area known for producing the heaviest and most coarsely woven Kazaks. The Tufenkian Kazak rugs however all have a pile height around a third of an inch. This piece measures 5' x 6'.
